So, you've decided that you want to start your own E.business.  Good!!!

The great thing about e.commerce is that you do not need to have your own product to sell, you can quite easily sell other people's products for them without even having a single product of theirs at home or in the office.  This is known as affiliate selling.  Basically, what you do is, you get all the advertising material from one of the many affiliate programs available on the web, in the form of text links or banners, add that information to your site and promote your site to potential clients.

Getting back to our set-up guide, though, with starting an E.business you also have to take into consideration what, or how much, you know about the Internet, programming language and website set up and maintenance, or whether you will need someone to do this for you.

The first steps to take, once you have decided what business you want to run are:

1) To get a domain name. 
2) Get hosting for your domain
3) Design a website
4) Promote your website

What is a domain name? ... A domain name is like your shop/store name.  It is your business title. It is the name by which your customers will get to know you.

Getting a domain name is easy and affordable.  In the side bar on this page you will find a list of links you can click on to sign up for a domain name and for domain hosting.  

What is domain hosting?  Basically, if you had a "physical" shop, it would be at a specific location, in a street somwhere, the same is true for websites.  Although your website "shop" is virtual, you need to rent space for it to be posted on the Internet, or the information super highway, as it is known.  So, domain hosting is like renting space to have your shop and just like you would with a "physical" shop, you need to decide how big your space needs to be.  

If you just want a small space with a few pages and 5 email addresses, then you can get very cheap or free hosting.  If you need something bigger, with more pages, more room to grow and endless email accounts, then hosting, (the rent), starts as little as 7,95 U.S dollars per month.  Please bare in mind that even if you start out with a smaller website, you can always upgrade to something bigger at a later date, as you see your business gradually growing.


So, now you have your domain name and you have your domain hosting.  What next? When you design your website it is important to include good click generating keywords, i.e. words that people might use in a search engine, for example, in order to find you. Good meta tags which will help robots crawl your site and define what your site is all about.
